Shatner's Golden Throat Returns

by Mark Cartwright

The Golden Throat is at it again!  Touting the album as “a match made, if not in heaven, then in the most glorious reaches of the galaxy,” Captain James T Kirk... William Shatner is releasing another album.  This time, he's going all out... he's doing a progressive rock album, called Ponder the Mystery, and it comes out this Tuesday.  Of course, Shatner can't sing a note, and he knows it, but he has such a great sense of humor about it, you can't wait to hear what happens.  Listen to the line up of musicians Shatner lined up for this album!.... Legendary Yes members Rick Wakeman and Billy Sherwood, Robby Krieger of The Doors, Steve Vai from.. well, Steve freakin' Vai, Edgar Winter, Mick Jones of Foreigner, and just to throw some sugar in the gas tank, country star Vince Gill.  (That's not a knock on Vince.  He is a world class guitarist, he just seems an odd pick amongst the others for some reason.)  You know the music is going to be great, the vocals are gonna be... well Shatner-ish... BUT... there could be some gems.  For instance:  Does anybody remember when Shatner teamed up with Joe Jackson and Ben Folds Five to do a cover of Common People by Pulp?  After the initial snicker, it turns into a great song!
