Pit Bull Heroes

by Storm Avery

As I write this blog, my pit bull Nikita is curled up next to me on the couch.  To give you an idea of her temperament, she's been dubbed the "cuddle bug" by one of my friends.  She's always ready to shower the next person she sees with lots of puppy kisses.  She is a lovable dog who is unfortunately judged by her breed.

I felt compelled to share this blog with you after a heated "debate" regarding the breed on Facebook.

I have been lucky enough to be around American Pit Bull Terriers since I was in the 4th grade.  Through the years, my family has owned, trained, and raised many pit bulls.  We were very active in APBT clubs designed to educate the public about these noble dogs.  We also participated in dogs shows for APBTs (conformation and weight pull).  So I have interacted with hundreds of pit bulls.  I have always been greeted with tail wagging and affectionate licking, never any sign of aggression.

The American Pit Bull Terrier is a breed worth protecting and fighting for.  They are a wonderful breed with a long history of distinction that somehow has been forgotten.

So let me introduce you to the American Pit Bull Terrier...

The APBT is a dog that will save his owner from a fire.

The APBT is a dog that brings comfort in the wake of a tragedy.

The APBT is a dog that is loyal and will protect her owner from harm.

The APBT is a decorated war hero.
