The Rolling Stones will be heading back to the U.S. next month for a new leg of their 50 & Counting tour. The trek, the band's first in about five years, kicked off late last year with a smattering of concerts in London and the New York City area.
Singer Mick Jagger says he put quite a bit of consideration into the best way for The Stones to approach a 50th anniversary outing.
"I just thought that 50th anniversary thing was a good time to really think, 'OK, would you like to do this?'" he explains. "'Do you want to book a big massive tour? Do you wanna just do a few shows and see how it goes?' So, we decided to do a few shows to see how it went and if it went well then, then we'd do more. And here we are doing more."
So far, says Jagger, his 50 & Counting tour experience has been "pretty amazing," and he's "very, very pleased" with the way fans have reacted to the concerts.
"I'm glad that we're coming to the United States and being able to play it more and get it even better," he maintains. "And I hope that people come to the show and really have a great time, 'cause I know I'm gonna."
Guitarist Keith Richards , meanwhile, says he couldn't be happier that The Stones are heading out on the road again.
"You wonder why you'd had such a long layoff, man," he declares, "because it's the life blood of us…to play in front of people."
As for how long it took for the group to get back into the swing of things once they'd reassembled, Richards insists, "Immediately, man. It sounded so fresh, and you could tell that everybody was dying to get into their teeth into it."
Keith added that he not only enjoys playing on stage with his band mates, but preparing to play on stage as well.
"I love rehearsing, especially with the Stones, because [they have] sort of a unique way of going about things," he notes. "I love watching this band work and the way it breathes."
The new North American leg of The Stones' 50 & Counting Tour is expected to kick off in early May at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. Check out all of the band's confirmed dates at RollingStones.com .
