SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO-AM) - Xcel Energy crews have restored power to almost 48,000 customers in Sioux Falls and surrounding communities.
Xcel spokesman Jim Wilcox says an estimated 20-thousand customers remain without power.
Crews from South Dakota, Minnesota, and North Dakota, as well as contractors from Iowa and Wiconsin are in the field. Wilcox says there are over 125 crews and over 320 people working to restore power in Sioux Falls today.
"We're really optimistic that we're going to have a good day today," Wilcox said.
Wilcox cautions residents to stay away from downed power lines and report their location at 800-895-4999. He says you should treat all downed power lines as live and dangerous. City officials ask that you also call 911 if you encounter any downed lines.
