SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - The Minnehaha County Commission this morning approved an emergency disaster declaration in the wake of last week's ice and snow storm.
Minnehaha County Emergency Management Director Lynn DeYoung says debris removal continues across the county.
DeYoung says it will take time to determine the cost to local and state governments. He says the debris removal will be the big component of the event. To put a dollar value on that is going to be extremely difficult, they just don't know what the volume will be. He says they are working through the process with FEMA.
DeYoung says costs to cities, counties and the state will easily exceed FEMA's minimum requirements of damage to public infrastructure.
