Ceres crews and machinery start work in SF neighborhoods

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - Sioux Falls residents will start seeing the Ceres large-body dump trucks hauling tree debris beginning Tuesday.

Director of Public Works Mark Cotter says the city has bid out two other contracts including arborist T-F-R, for trimming hanging branches in public rights of way, and a Kansas monitoring team called S-A-I-C.

Cotter says monitoring is essential for a potential Presidential Disaster Declaration.  He says this has been one of the most significant ice and snow events that people who have lived in Sioux Falls for fifty years have not witnessed.  He says when you see the damage that we've seen it's the right thing to do and document it correctly.

Cotter says if a declaration is approved FEMA would pay 75% of public costs, the state 10% and the city 15%.

He says S-A-I-C is hiring local monitors and those interested can contact public works.
