Billy Joel performed Saturday night at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, mixing in his classics with other tunes that fit the event's theme.
According to New Orleans' The Times-Picayune , he played "Zanzibar," which is off his 1978 album 52nd Street and features the trumpet; the jazz-influenced tune "Big Man on Mulberry Street," from his 1986 disc The Bridge ; and "Root Beer Rag," from 1974's Streetlife Serenade. Billy also performed a bit of the Johnny Horton song "The Battle of New Orleans."
Of course, he also played some of his greatest hits, such as "New York State of Mind," "Only the Good Die Young," and "Scenes from an Italian Restaurant."
Billy Joel last appeared at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival in 2008. This year's event continues through May 5.
