Classic photos of Aretha Franklin , Stevie Wonder and Marvin Gaye are among many images that are featured in a powerful and uplifting dedication video Beyonce has released in honor of the city of Detroit. When the pop/R&B superstar performed in the Motor City area on July 20, she delivered a heartfelt tribute to the embattled metropolis, which recently declared bankruptcy, by singing the stirring Sam Cooke anthem "A Change Is Gonna Come."
The footage from that performance was turned into a black-and-white video montage that boasts shots of the city's iconic landmarks. The scenes are intertwined with pictures of the biggest celebrities associated with Detroit, including Franklin, Wonder, Gaye, Smokey Robinson and the Miracles , The Temptations and Bob Seger , as well as candid clips of some of the fans who attended Beyonce's show at the Palace of Auburn Hills.
"This for you Detroit," Beyonce writes on her Facebook page with a link to the video.
The nod to one of Michigan's most populous cities shouldn't come as a surprise. Although she's native of Houston, Beyonce previously declared that she was influenced by Diana Ross , who is among the many greats hailing from Motown.
