VERMILLION, S.D. (KWSN)— University of South Dakota’s tennis team is the lone Summit League program and one of 62 teams nationally to be named an Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-Academic Team for achieving a cumulative team grade point average of 3.2 or above. USD turned in a team GPA of 3.42. It is the eighth time in the last nine years that the Coyotes’ have been named an All-Academic Team.
“I am proud of our ladies for another great year of work on the courts and in the classroom,” said USD head tennis coach Malcolm Gilreath. “It is terrific to see them rewarded and recognized in this way.”
In addition to the team distinction, five Coyotes earned ITA Scholar-Athlete status for earning a GPA of at least 3.5 for the current academic year. Those members include senior Veronika Makashov, juniors Maddy Warder and Michelle Elkin, and sophomores Nina Barudzic and Yamini Reddy. USD has had 34 individual award winners in the last nine seasons.
