SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - The two Watertown High School Students charged in this weeks robbery-gone-wrong murder in Sioux falls were reportedly recruited for the job.
Prosecutors say that the teenagers were brought to the house Monday afternoon and told that there was $100,000 inside - brought there by Kevin James Rice and Douglas Peter Scholtlen, both 20, both of Dell Rapids.
Police spokesman Sam Clemens says drugs and money were found in the home. Clemens says the suspects knew the murder victim, Jordan LeBeau.
Clemens says the murder victim’ s father was wounded when he unexpectedly walked in on the men. He is hospitalized in stable condition. Investigators recovered a 9 millimeter handgun in the home.
18-year-old Brian David Anderson and 17-year-old Trevor James Kruthoff, both of Watertown, are charged with murder. Even though Rice and Scholtlen may have plotted the robbery, then have not been charged in the killing itself.
