After a number of delays, John Fogerty 's star-studded duets album, Wrote a Song for Everyone , finally will be released his on May 28.  The 14-song collection sees the ex- Creedence Clearwater Revival frontman teaming up with stars from various music genres on new versions of many of his former band's most-loved and enduring tunes.

Fogerty tells ABC News Radio that all of his collaborators were "truly delightful to work with," while noting that one of the aspects he enjoyed most about this project was getting to let go of the reins a bit and allowing the other artists to help decide the musical direction of the tracks.

He explains, "It isn't just the same old, where I get to go in and I'm kind of the big dog, and [I say,] 'Here, it goes this way!' and, you know, 'You do this!  You do that!'…These things are sort of more collaborative."

"I wanna hear what they have in mind about presenting this music," adds the 67-year-old Rock and Roll Hall of Famer.  "And I get to be sort of a…rhythm guitar player, if you will…almost an observer sometimes."

Among the many artists with whom Fogerty worked was the Foo Fighters , who recorded a rendition of the Creedence classic "Fortunate Son."

Perhaps with a nod to his CCR days, the singer/guitarist says he really appreciated the camaraderie and chemistry frontman Dave Grohl shared with his fellow Foos.

"Great guys.  I mean, it was so fun to be part of a band like that," Fogerty notes about the sessions.  "That's a whole different energy, when you're truly a band mate and guys are all pulling for each other...I guess it's somewhat like an athletic team, like a football team, but even better."

Fogerty recently has had the opportunity to share the Foo Fighters' camaraderie on stage, as he's been performing alongside the band members as part of Grohl's Sound City Players collective.  The supergroup has played a couple shows in conjunction with Grohl's new documentary, Sound City , which also features an appearance by Fogerty.  Another Sound City Players concert is scheduled to take place February 13 in New York City.
