The Who had to scramble to find a musician to fill in for Zakk Starkey on Tuesday when the drummer fell ill just a few hours before the band's concert at the Valley View Casino Center in San Diego.  Luckily, Who singer Roger Daltrey and guitarist Pete Townshend were able to call on Scott Devours , who played drums on Daltrey's solo "Tommy" tour a couple of years back.

According to a post on the group's official website, Devours did a "magnificent" job, after only having two hours to rehearse The Who's classic 1973 rock opera, Quadrophenia .  The message also points out that Scott "performed the 'greatest hits' encore with no rehearsal at all."

At the end of the concert, Townshend reportedly gave a heartfelt tribute to Devours.  Daltrey, meanwhile, says in a statement, " Quadrophenia 's not an easy piece.  To do what Scotty did took real guts."

By the way, TheWho.com reports that Starkey's illness is "nothing serious."
