The family of Richie Havens has confirmed plans to scatter the late folk singer's ashes on the grounds of the Bethel Woods Center for the Arts in Bethel, New York, the site of the 1969 Woodstock festival.  The memorial event will take place Sunday, August 18, and also will include performances and spoken-word tributes paying homage to Havens, who passed away on April 22 at the age of 72 after suffering a heart attack.

The event, titled Back to the Garden: A Day of Song and Remembrance Honoring Richie Havens, will be free to the public, although attendees must acquire a ticket to gain entry.  Tickets will be made available starting on July 9 at 10 a.m. ET.; visit RichieHavens.com and BethelWoodsCenter.org for more information.

The memorial will coincide with the 44th anniversary of Woodstock, which was held August 15-17 of 1969.  Havens became famous as the first artist to perform at the historic festival.
