The Romantics , which had a string of hits in the 1980s, including “What I Like About You” and “Talking In Your Sleep,” have settled a lawsuit filed by a former member over song royalties, the Detroit News reports.

George “Coz” Canler , a former lead guitarist with the group from 1980 to 2011, filed a lawsuit two years ago claiming he had been cheated out of royalties from recordings that went to Master Beat, a business entity that was created by the Detroit-based band to share profits.

According to the Detroit News , band members claimed Canler was not entitled to any royalties from songs he neither wrote nor on which he performed.

In a settlement announced Tuesday, Canler will be paid a total of $130,000 in exchange for relinquishing a 25 percent share in Master Beat. He will also be paid 15 percent of all future song royalties for tunes he either wrote or performed.

By reaching an agreement, both sides avert a trial that was scheduled to begin this week.

The Romantics are still performing.  Their next concert date is September 6 at the Mohegan Sun Casino in Connecticut.
