USD sends 14 to Austin for Texas Relays


AUSTIN, Texas – South Dakota track and field will send 14 athletes to compete at the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays being held at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin, Texas. The meet runs from Wednesday to Saturday, but no Coyotes competed during Wednesday’s events.

The group breaks down into 10 women and four men. Each athlete qualified for the meet based on previous performances. Twelve athletes will compete in the university/college division (for D-I, D-II, D-III, NAIA, and NJCAA athletes), while two will compete in the university division (D-I competition only). Field events are broken down into two sections, A and B.

Hurdler Alexa Duling will start competition for USD by running in the women’s 400-meter hurdles on Thursday at 4:30 p.m. She will also race in the women’s 100-meter hurdles on Saturday at 2:15 p.m.

USD will have seven distance runners competing Thursday night. Amber Eichkorn and Katie Wetzstein will race in the women’s 5,000-meters at 9 p.m, while Britni Waller, Ali Gress and Megan Hilson will all run in the women’s 10,000 at 9:55 p.m.

Also racing that night, the two distance runners on the men’s side will race in the university division. Jeff Mettler will run in the men’s 3,000 steeplechase at 8 p.m. and Brant Haase will run in the men’s 10,000 at 10:30 p.m.

On Friday, throwers Kyle McKelvey and Cody Snyder will compete in section B of the men’s shot put at 10 a.m. Later that day, Bethany Buell, Emily Grove and Madison Mills will all compete in section A of the women’s pole vault at 8 p.m.

On Saturday, Megan Glisar will compete in section A of the women’s high jump at 2 p.m., and Snyder will be in in section A for the men’s discus at 3:30 p.m.

The Coyotes will also send athletes to the Razorback Spring Invite in Fayetteville, Ark., this weekend. That meet begins on Saturday.
