    • Features fresh produce, flowers, meats and more at Falls Park.
  • Orange City Tulip Festival- Friday & Saturday, Orange City, IA
    • The Tulip Festival, named one of the Top 100 Events in North America for 2011 by the American Bus Association, features an entertaining celebration of Orange Citys rich Dutch heritage. 33rd annual event including 5K & 10K Road Race and 1 mile fun walk is May 18 at 8:10 a.m. at Windmall Park. Other festivities include music and dancing by children and adults in intricate authentic costumes, two daily parades featuring top area marching bands, nightly musical theatre, a carnival midway, fun Dutch delicacies, plus thousands of tulips and a dozen replica windmills throughout the charming village.
  • Canaries Baseball Opening Weekend- Friday to Sunday @ The Birdcage
    • Friday 7:05pm vs Sioux City Explorers- Magnetic Schedule Giveaway for the first 1,000 fans, and Free Friday Fireworks!!
    • Saturday 7:05pm vs Sioux City Explorers- The first 500 fans will receive a Birds are Back t-shirt
    • Sunday 1:05pm vs Sioux City Explorers- After the game, kids can run the bases, meet the players and get player autographs
  • Poppy Days to Salute Those Killed in Service- Fri & Sat, Sioux Falls
    • American Legion Auxiliary volunteers will distribute poppies Friday and Saturday and are asking people to wear them as a salute to those who have died in service to their country. Mayor Mike Huether has declared May 17-18 as Poppy Days. Members of American Legion Auxiliary Unit 15, as well as members of Legion Post 15, will be handing out the flowers.
  • The Wizard of Oz- Fri to Sun @ Orpheum Theater, Sioux Falls
    • Performed on the Main Stage, with 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday showtimes and 2 p.m. Sunday matinees.
  •  SD Open House and Free Fishing Weekend- Friday 8apm to Sunday 11pm Statewide
    • This weekend is free entrance into all South Dakota state parks and recreation areas. In addition, a number of parks will host special events to kick off the camping season. Camping fees still apply. This weekend is also Free Fishing Weekend; no fishing licenses are required. Regulations and limits still apply
  • Open House Celebration at Custer State Park- Friday 8am to Sunday 11pm @ Custer State Park
    • To celebrate the beginning of the summer season, visitors can take nature hikes, hayrack rides, cowboy cookouts, pancake feeds and other special events. A free fishing derby, awarding prizes for anglers in each age group.
  • Spring Parade of Homes- Saturday to Monday @ Sioux Falls Area
    • In addition to more than 75 homes built by more than 45 area builders, Parade homes No. 26 and No. 75 will be the Feature Homes for the event. Parade home No. 26 is 6,700 sq. feet and built by Deffenbaugh Homes is located at 2609 Brentridge St. in Prairie Hills in southern Sioux Falls. Parade home No. 75 is 5,800 sq. feet and built by Zome’s Construction and located at 8912 E. Palmetto Circle. Admission into each feature home is $5 per person.
  • Scheels Fish Fest- Friday to Sunday @ Scheels, Sioux Falls
    • Features three days with a variety of fishing vendors. Register to win a fishing package valued at more than $400. Activities for all ages; stop at the Berkley Experience Trailer for unadvertised hourly/daily specials.
  • 25th Annual Springcon Comic Book Celebration- Saturday & Sunday @ Minnesota Fairgrounds
    • Located in the Grandstand. Features comic book action, comic book creators, free creator autographs, comic book talk and conversations and fresh food. Come in costume and bring your art portfolio. All are welcome; www.midwestcomicbook.com.
  • Poker Run Fundraiser for Camp Gilbert- Saturday 11am @ J & L Harley Davidson
    • Registration is $15 per card, $250 prize for 1st place. All vehicles welcome! Proceeds go to Camp Gilbert, a camp for kids with diabetes ages 8 to 18.
  • Ugandan Orphans Chior Performs- Saturday 1:30pm @ Great Plains Zoo
    • The Ugandan Orphans Choir consists of 10 kids who will be singing, dancing and drumming their way through the Western United States, sharing traditional rhythmic dances and songs of Africa with audiences.
  • Love Your Kidneys 5k/10k Run & Bike-a-Thon- Saturday 7:30am, City of Watertown
    • Begins at the Bramble Park Zoo Shelter. To register for the race, visit www.allsportcentral.com.
  • Dell Rapids Garden Club Plant Sale- Saturday 8am to 12pm @ Dell Rapids City Park
  • Free Rock Chip Day- Saturday 8am to 3pm @ Western Mall Parking Lot
    • There will be several service professionals from Certified Auto Glass there to fix rock chips for free on the spot. If people stop, but don't have time to have it fixed the day of, they can get a rain check to get it fixed at a later time, still for free. They are welcoming donations at the event, 100 percent of which will benefit Susan G. Komen South Dakota.
