In April, Olivia Newton-John announced that she would postpone a planned residency in Las Vegas to spend time with her older sister Rona, who had been diagnosed with brain cancer. Now, Olivia has announced the sad news that 69-year-old Rona has passed away.
On her Facebook page, Olivia writes, " My beautiful sister Rona sadly passed on May 24th in Los Angeles. It was May 25th in Australia -- which was our mother Irene's birthday. Rona died of a very aggressive brain tumor and mercifully suffered no pain."
Olivia adds that her sister was "surrounded by the love of her four children -- Fiona, Brett, Tottie and Emerson and her wonderful friends. I will miss her forever -- my beautiful, smart, talented, funny, brave sister Rona."
The singer, herself a breast cancer survivor, adds that in lieu of flowers, Rona's family would like donations to be sent to the Olivia Newton-John Cancer and Wellness Center , where a program will be started in Rona's name.
