The United States Mint and the National Park Service announce the official launch of the Mount Rushmore National Memorial quarter on November 6, 2013.

Keystone, S.D. (KELO AM) – Join officials from the United States Mint and the National Park Service for the official launch of the Mount Rushmore National Memorial quarter on November 6, 2013. The ceremony will take place at the National Guard Armory in Custer, 527 Montgomery Street, South Dakota, at 10 a.m. Mountain Time (MT). Highlights of the free event include release of the new quarter, a coin exchange where the public can swap their cash for $10 rolls of the new Mount Rushmore National Memorial quarter, and the opportunity to purchase uncirculated Mount Rushmore quarter sets.

The evening before the launch ceremony — Tuesday, November 5, at 5:30 p.m. (MT) — the United States Mint will host a coin forum at the Mount Rushmore National Memorial Carver’s Café. The coin forum is an opportunity for the public to express their views about future coinage, and to learn about upcoming United States Mint coin programs and initiatives.   Inspiration for the coin’s reverse design was drawn from photos of men putting the final details to Thomas Jefferson's face. This is the 20th coin in the America the Beautiful Quarters® Program, the United States Mint’s multi-year initiative to honor our national parks and other national sites.   "This new quarter reflects our continued fascination with the majestic Mount Rushmore National Memorial and the enduring legacies of the four leaders whose faces have become one with the Black Hills," said David Croft, Acting Associate Director for Manufacturing at the United States Mint.
