SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO-AM) - Understanding the Affordable Care Act and how it will impact South Dakota’s farmers and ranchers is the focus of a panel discussion hosted by South Dakota Farmers Union (SDFU) during its Nov. 14 fall conference.

The conference will be held in Huron at the Crossroads Hotel and Huron Event Center from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Following the conference, an open house will be from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the new SDFU state office building on Dakota Ave. in Huron. No registration is required.

“Healthcare plays a vital role in the lives of many rural families involved in the business of farming and ranching,” said SDFU Executive Director Karla Hofhenke. “We think the Affordable Care Act could have a big impact on all South Dakotans. We understand that many have questions concerning the Affordable Care Act, so we invited a group of folks involved in the healthcare industry to answer questions.”

The panel begins at 1:30 and is open to the public. The panel includes: Statewide Coordinator Kim Jones with the S.D. Navigator Coalition; Associate State Director of Advocacy Erik Nelson with AARP South Dakota; Advertising and Communications Coordinator Jennie Nickles with Great Plains Brokerage; and President Warren Graber of Graber & Associates Insurance, Inc. Each panelist will provide their perspective on how the Affordable Care Act impacts South Dakotans. The panel will conclude with an opportunity for attendees to ask questions.

“As advocates for South Dakota’s farmers and ranchers, we saw this as a good opportunity to provide first-hand information to our members,” said SDFU President Doug Sombke.

Sombke said the discussion topic lines up well with the conference theme which is “New Horizons”.
