Patti LaBelle 's bodyguard, Efrem Holmes , has been found not guilty of assaulting West Point cadet Richard King at Houston's George Bush Intercontinental Airport on March 11, 2011, The Houston Chronicle reports.
The newspaper reports prosecutors in the case admitted that King, who was in Houston to visit his family, was intoxicated, but the attack was unjustified and happened because King was loitering around around Patti's limousine while talking on his cellphone.
According to the Chronicle , jurors came to their decision after watching surveillance video of the incident, which involved King, Patti's 37-year-old son Zuri Edwards and Holmes.
King was suspended from the U.S. Military Academy as a result of the incident and was later reinstated.
King is suing LaBelle and Holmes for more than $1 million in a civil court in connection with the incident.
