BROOKINGS, S.D. (KWSN)– South Dakota State head volleyball coach Phil McDaniel announced Wednesday that Jessi Henter from Clive, Iowa, has signed a national letter of intent to play at South Dakota State next season.
“Jessi will bring a great deal of experience and competitiveness to our squad. She sees the court well and is an excellent decision-maker on the court,” McDaniel said. “She is a bright, hard-working young lady who has a great deal of potential to be successful at the next level.”
The 6-foot setter was named first team all-state as a junior, All-Central Iowa Metropolitan League and first team Western Division Conference as a senior. Henter was also honored on the Des Moines Register’s second-team All-Elite CIML Team. The West Des Moines Dowling Catholic High School MVP and captain was one of 32 Iowa seniors to play in the Senior Volleyball Classic.
As a junior, Henter was named first team all-state and first team All-Elite CIML by the Des Moines Register, and honorable mention Iowa High School All-State. She was chosen for the Iowa International HP team and ranked third in the state in Class 5A in assists per set.
Henter’s sophomore year had her earning honorable mention all-conference, in addition to being a member of the Iowa National HP team and qualifying for the USA Volleyball nationals during the club season.
In her freshman season, Henter was named second team all-conference, first team Large School All-Dallas County, and ranked third in the state in Class 4A in assists per set and aces.
Academically, the four-year letterwinner was named to the academic all-state team.
The Jackrabbits travel to the Hoosier State this weekend when they play Fort Wayne Friday at 6 p.m. and IUPUI Saturday at 4 p.m.
