RAPID CITY, S.D.  (KWSN) –The University of Sioux Falls women's basketball team came away with their second win of the weekend when they defeated the South Dakota School of Mines by a score of 76-51. USF (3-0) relied on a strong defensive performance as they held the Hardrockers to 28.3% from the field.

"We learned how to play on back-to-back nights which is something we will have to do once our conference schedule starts," said coach Traphagen.

The game was even early on until the Cougars went on a 28-5 run in the last ten minutes of the first half. USF received a strong first half performance from Taylor Varsho as she dropped 18 points on 7-of-12 shooting in the first 20 minutes of action. The Cougars defense showed it's strength in the first 20 minutes as they held SD Mines & Technology to 21.4% on field goals and just 10% from behind the arc. The Cougars took a 40-18 lead into the half.

The Cougar women cruised in the second half as they scored 36 points and held the Hardrockers to 36% on field goals.

Offensively, USF was paced in the second half by Bailey Bouman and Amber Paden who scored seven and six second half points respectively for the Cougars.

Taylor Varsho led all scorers with 21 points and also grabbed three rebounds for USF.

Bailey Bouman also got into double-figures as she scored 10 points.

15 Cougar athletes saw action in the game with 11 of those players scoring.

I'm really proud of how our kids competed on this tough road trip," added coach Traphagen. "We are making positive steps and are excited about our next game against Nebraska-Kearney."

Next, the Cougars will take on Nebraska-Kearney in the final non-conference game of the season. Tip off is set for 7 p.m. at the Stewart Center on November 26.
