SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO-am) The City of Sioux Falls is making plans for an even more vibrant downtown. One of the City’s new high-priority projects, called the 2025 Downtown Plan, will create a vision for the next ten years of downtown development, and input from Sioux Falls residents will be key to the plan’s success.
After more than ten years since the 2015 Downtown Plan was adopted, downtown Sioux Falls has seen a significant amount of new development and redevelopment prosperity. Now looking forward to the next decade, a new vision for downtown must be created.
“The 2025 Downtown Plan will create a vision that will shape the future of our downtown for generations to come. This unique vision will be created by our citizens through significant public input and will be implemented by community leaders over the next decade,” says Darrin Smith, Director of Community Development.
“Downtown Sioux Falls has experienced major changes over the last ten years from increased retail and residential development to the Big Sioux River Greenway project. We expect the future potential for both private and public investment to be even greater, and that’s why it’s important to have an updated development plan that can help guide decision makers,” says Mike Cooper, Director of Planning and Building Services.
Over the next 12 to 15 months, numerous opportunities will be available for the citizens of Sioux Falls to provide their input on the future vision of downtown. A wide variety of public meetings, community-wide events, and a number of committees will be established to seek input for the vision of downtown.
Downtown Sioux Falls is the City’s center for business, government, recreation, leisure, arts, and culture, with a richly diverse range of dining, shopping, living, and entertainment opportunities. The 2025 Downtown Plan will create a vision that will stimulate the development of a vibrant downtown, which will feature a variety of amenities that will lead to a safe, prosperous, culturally diverse, and attractive downtown.
