SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - Three South Dakota carriers, Sanford, Avera and DakotaCare offer 35 different health insurance plans under the Affordable Care Act.
Lisa Carlson, with the Sanford Health Plan in Sioux Falls, says the government sponsored website, health-care-dot-gov, compares insurance plans from a variety of companies.
Carlson says individuals can go directly to any insurance company’s website to see products and prices sold in and out of the exchange. She says the reason you would want to go to the federal website is to determine if you're eligible for subsidies.
Carlson says health-care-dot-gov will show ways to help people pay for monthly premiums to the insurance companies and ways for people to reduce out-of-pocket costs when purchasing and using health care services
Carlson says the information at health-care-dot-gov is based on household income. She says the government website is the tool that evaluates individual eligibility for those programs.
