Sioux Falls, S.D. (KELO AM) - At approximately 1:18 a.m. an employee of Taco Johns, located at 1100 S. Minnesota Ave, called Metro Communications to report a suspicious male exiting Action Pawn and Gun which is located at 1005 S. Minnesota Ave.
The reporting party said that the subject was last seen crouching by some vehicles in the Subaru of Sioux Falls lot located next to the pawn shop. Metro Communications also received an alarm activation from the pawn shop at about the same time.
Upon arrival officers located a subject in the Subaru lot that matched the description that had been given by the Taco Johns Employee. The subject fled on foot to the south of the dealership. A perimeter was set up by responding officers and the suspect was located nearby. A short foot pursuit ensued and the suspect was apprehended near W. 21st St. and S. Spring Ave. The subject was identified as Juan Carlos Aleman of Sioux Falls.
The subsequent investigation showed that Aleman had entered the pawn shop via a roof air vent. Once inside he stole some power hand tools and was in the process of trying to steal one of the cars off the Subaru lot when he was confronted by the responding officers.
The officers found a discarded and damaged key lock box from one of the dealerships vehicles in a back yard where Aleman had ran. They also discovered one of the car dealerships vehicles to be damaged.
Aleman was lodged for 3rd Degree Burglary, 1st Degree Intentional Damage to Property, Attempted Grand Theft, Tampering with a Motor Vehicle, and Fleeing Police.
