Led Zeppelin-Themed Film Being Made Based on Infamous 1973 Theft of Band's Money

A new low-budget independent movie is in production based on an infamous incident in which more than $200,000 was stolen from Led Zeppelin while the band played a July 1973 concert at Madison Square Garden.  The cash mysteriously disappeared from a safety-deposit box belonging to the rock legends at the ritzy, now-demolished New York City hotel The Drake.

The case was never solved, but filmmakers Gabriel Tolliver and Jackie Maw Tolliver have written a movie titled Fleecing Led Zeppelin that tells a fictional tale about just what may have happened to the band's money.  The Tollivers have taken to the Indiegogo project-funding site in an effort to raise the money needed to complete the short film and then, ideally, expand it into a full-length feature.

In Fleecing Led Zeppelin , a man finds a huge bundle of money in a bowling bag belong to his mother and proceeds to try to figure out where it came from.

In a video made to promote their Indiegogo campaign, the Tollivers explain that their film "is a fan movie for lovers of rock 'n' roll history or for folks who just want to know what happened to that money.  The filmmakers have set a goal of $35,000 and are offering a variety of perks to those who contribute to the initiative.  Among the perks being offered are posters T-shirts, hats, props and phony commemorative money promoting the flick.
