SIOUX FALLS, S.D.(KWSN)- Augustana middle blocker Holly Hafemeyer was named the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference offensive player of the week in a release by the conference on Monday afternoon.A senior from Faribault, Minn. led the Vikings to two wins with match-high kills in both victories.
For the weekend, Hafemeyer recorded 36 kills (4.5/set) and 11 total blocks, six solo and five block assists.In Friday's sweep of Northern State, Hafemeyer drilled 15 kills without a single attack error to arrive at a .385 attack percentage. The two-time All-NSIC performer finished with five blocks, including two solo stuffs to start the weekend.Without the heroics of their All-American, the Vikings may have not escaped with a five-set win over Minnesota State Moorhead on Saturday.
Hafemeyer led five-point runs to close out the fourth and fifth sets when the Vikings were faced with 23-20 and 13-10 deficits in the final sets of the Vikings' fifth-straight win.Hafemeyer finished the match with 21 kills and six blocks -- four of those kills and one of her career-high four solo blocks came in Augustana's late-set comebacks in the fourth and fifth sets.
This is the second time Hafemeyer has been named an NSIC player of the week after she grabbed defensive player of the week honors on Sept. 16 of this season.
The Vikings return home this weekend to face Minnesota State and No. 1 Concordia-St. Paul on Friday and Saturday.
