James Taylor "Essential" Compilation Arriving Later This Month

James Taylor is the subject of a new installment of Legacy Recording's The Essential compilation series that will be released on October 29 The Essential James Taylor will be the first two-CD retrospective featuring songs from throughout the folk-rock legend's entire career.

The album offers a selection of Taylor's classic original hits and cover tunes, album gems and concert performances, spanning from his 1970 Warner Bros. debut, Sweet Baby James , through the 2007 live album One Man Band .

Among the many memorable recordings featured on The Essential are "Fire and Rain," Taylor's chart-topping rendition of Carole King 's "You've Got a Friend," "How Sweet It Is," "Shower the People," "Carolina in My Mind" "Handy Man" and "Your Smiling Face."  Other interesting tracks on the compilation include the singer/songwriter's hit 1981 duet with J.D. Souther , "Her Town Too," and a version of the Stephen Foster-composed standard "Hard Times Come No More" recorded with the string trio of Yo-Yo Ma , Edgar Meyer and Mark O'Connor .

Taylor has been focusing on making a new studio album and has no current tour dates on his schedule.
