Neil Young will receive a special honor from the Producers & Engineers Wing of the Recording Academy this January during the seventh annual Grammy Week celebrations.  The rock legend will be recognized for "his commitment to excellence and ongoing support for the art and craft of recorded music."

Young will be saluted during a gala event that will take place on January 21 at the Village Studios in West Los Angeles, California.

Recording Academy president Neil Portnow praised the renowned singer/songwriter for being "a musical icon who has been tireless in his own efforts to draw attention to the importance of hearing music as the artists who created it intended, and who has continually set precedents of excellence within the music community."

In bestowing the honor on Young, the organization cites his many achievements, including his prolific music output as a solo artist and with the Buffalo Springfield , Crazy Horse and Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young ; the many movies he's directed and released; his charitable work with the Farm Aid organization and the Bridge School; and his efforts to create and promote the new high-fidelity music system Pono, which is expected to debut in 2014.

Previous Producers & Engineers Wing honorees include T Bone Burnett , Tom Dowd , Ahmet Ertegun , Jimmy Iovine , Quincy Jones , Arif Mardin , and Jerry Wexler .

Grammy Week concludes with the 56th annual Grammy Awards ceremony, scheduled for January 26 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
