Red Wings, Black Hawks Lose, Griffins Win: Hope, GVSU, WMU and the Spartans Win-Lions take on Cowboys Today

DETROIT, MI  -- Derick Brassard scored on a breakaway with 12.9  seconds in overtime to lift the New York Rangers to a 3-2 come-from- behind victory over  the Detroit Red Wings at Joe Louis Arena.  Jimmy Howard made 37 saves for the slumping Red Wings, now 0-2-2 over their last four contests, with Drew Miller and Daniel Alfredsson netting goals in the loss.  Next game for the Redwings is on Wednesday in Vancouver against the Canucks.  Hear the game on 1450 WHTC at 7:10 P.M.


CHICAGO, IL -- Jason  Pominville tallied two goals as the Minnesota  Wild  defeated the Chicago  Blackhawks, 5-3, at United Center.  Bryan Bickell, Patrick Kane, and Marcus Kruger scored for Chicago in the defeat. Corey Crawford allowed five goals on 25 shots as the Blackhawks dropped their second straight game.  Minnesota and Chicago play again in St Paul on Monday night.


ROSEMONT, IL — The Grand Rapids Griffins continued their road game point streak with a 3-2 win over the Chicago Wolves on Saturday at the Allstate Arena. The win marked the fifth consecutive away game in which the Griffins have earned at least one point.  Grand Rapids will take on the Iowa Wild at 6:05 p.m. EDT on Sunday at Wells Fargo Arena.


HOLLAND, MI -- The Hope football team delivered head coach Dean Kreps his 100th career win in dramatic fashion Saturday night under the lights. Two fourth-down conversions in the fourth quarter set up the game's final 10 points in a 27-17 Flying Dutchmen win against Kalamazoo College. The victory, coupled with Olivet's last-second win at Adrian, launched Hope back into Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) title contention.  Next week, the Flying Dutchmen head to Indiana to take on Trine University. 


MIDLAND, MI -- Grand Valley State claimed a 23-17 road victory in rain and slop Saturday afternoon in Midland, Michigan. The Lakers, who improve to 6-2 overall and 4-2 in GLIAC action, will host Hillsdale Nov. 2 at Lubbers Stadium.  Next Saturday is a home game against Hillsdale.


CHAMPAIGN, IL -- Connor Cook threw for three touchdowns in a nearly flawless performance to lead the Michigan State Spartans to a 42-3 rout of the Illinois Fighting Illini in Big Ten play at Memorial Stadium.  The Spartans are home next Saturday to play their interstate rival, the Michigan Wolverines.  The Wolverines had this weekend off.


FOXBORO, MA -- The Western Michigan Broncos football team picked up their first win against the Massachusetts Minutemen by a score of 31-30.  WMU has a bye week this upcoming week, giving them some extra time to prepare for Eastern Michigan in their next game.


DEKALB, IL -- In its first game against a ranked opponent this season, the Eastern Michigan University football team dropped a 59-20 decision to the No. 18-ranked Northern Illinois University Huskies Saturday afternoon, Oct. 26, at Huskie Stadium.  The Eagles stay on the road for its next contest, heading south to square off against the University of Toledo Rockets, Nov. 2. The game will be under the lights of the Glass Bowl with kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m.


DETROIT, MI -- Two teams with division title hopes tangle Sunday at Ford Field as the Lions take on the Dallas Cowboys.  Matthew Stafford threw for 357 yards, three scores and no picks in last week’s loss to Cincinnatti.  He has 15 TD's and just four interceptions this season for Detroit, which is right behind Green Bay in the NFC North at 4-and-3.  Game coverage begins at noon today on 1450 WHTC.


MINNEAPOLIS, MN --   Two teams headed in opposite directions match up on "Sunday Night Football" with the Green Bay Packers traveling to the Twin Cities to take on the Minnesota Vikings.  Green Bay has won three in-a-row.  Minnesota is 1-and-5.  Game coverage on 1450 WHTC is set for 7:30 p.m.
