Falch earns first NSIC athlete of the week honor for 2013

BURNSVILLE, Minn. (KWSN) - Augustana senior Runa Falch pulled in her first Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference athlete of the week with her winning performance at the Augustana Twilight Invitational on Friday according to a release from the conference on Monday morning.The senior from Steinkjer, Norway won the opening-weekend meet by nearly 20 seconds with a time of 16:16.77.  

She defeated the next closest attached runner by over 40 seconds, further showing her dominant race.Falch also led the team to their first meet win of 2013 with a score of 34 points.  The next four Vikings finishers all placed in the top 11 to secure the team win.This was Falch's second consecutive Twilight victory after taking the title last year along with two other individual meet wins. 

Falch placed eighth at the NCAA Championships helping Augustana to a runner-up finish last November.Falch adds another athlete of the week honor to her overflowing trophy case -- she was named athlete of the week twice last season along with earning Central Region athlete of the year and her third All-America honors. Falch was also listed as the NSIC preseason athlete of the year in the first release.

The Vikings return to the racing circuit at the Roy Griak Invitational hosted by the University of Minnesota on Sept. 28 in Minneapolis.
