South Dakota State used two hits and a South Dakota error to score an unearned run in the fourth inning, but the Coyotes used two Jackrabbit miscues to score a pair of unearned runs in the sixth to secure a 2-1 win on a windy day at Jackrabbit Softball Stadium.

The loss ends the Jackrabbits Summit League season with a 2-16 mark, which locks them into the No. 6 seed at the league tournament scheduled for May 7-10, in Fargo, N.D., and drops them to 9-32 on the season overall.

South Dakota, which closes league play next weekend at NDSU, improves to 28-17 overall and to 9-5 in the league.

Sammy Bingham opened the Jacks half of the fourth with a single to left field and Vanessa Kellems followed with a single to right, and advanced all the way to third on a throwing error, which allowed Bingham to score from first to put SDSU up 1-0.

The score remained the same into the sixth, when the Coyotes capitalized on a pair of potential inning-ending errors to score their two unearned runs at take a 2-1 lead.

Both pitchers went the distance in the game, and each surrendered just three hits and one walk, with SDSU starter Ashlyn Bender striking out one and South Dakota Starter Rachel Cue striking out five.

The Summit League season in the books, the Jackrabbits return to the road for a non-conference doubleheader at North Dakota on Wednesday at 2 p.m., and then return home to close the regular season on Saturday with a doubleheader against Kansas City at noon.
