Today marks the 45th anniversary of the photo shoot that captured perhaps the most famous street crossing in history. The Beatles -- John Lennon , Ringo Starr , Paul McCartney and George Harrison , in that order -- were snapped walking across London's Abbey Road for the cover of final studio album that the band recorded, Abbey Road .
To commemorate the occasion, a few hundred Fab Four fans gathered at the site this morning. Also there lending a musical hand was the cast from the Beatles-themed West End show Let It Be .
Meanwhile, The Beatles' official website marked the milestone by posting a gallery of outtakes from the August 1969 shoot, all taken by the late photographer Iain Macmillan . The images show the band members in both directions at the now famous "zebra" crossing.
