Sam Moore and up-and-coming bluegrass band Nu-Blu will visit the Fox News show Huckabee on September 20 to perform their new duet "Jesus and Jones," which pays tribute to the legendary soul singer's late friend, country star George Jones . The tune, which Moore sings alongside Nu-Blu's Carolyn Routh , was released late last month and is the first single from the group's upcoming album, All the Way .
The tune marks the first foray into bluegrass music for the 78-year-old "Soul Man," who previously has delved into pop, jazz, big band, country and R&B during his long career. Sam tells
that he initially wasn't interested in recording the song when his publicist sent it to him.
"I told him, 'There ain't no way I'm singing anything like this,'" reveals Moore. "But, I listened to the song in the office [and] it got better. As we recorded it, I got into it a little more and more, and I started to really like it. Now, I love it."
Moore was part of the lineup for a star-studded November 2013 show in Nashville honoring Jones, who died in April of last year at the age of 71. Sam tells Billboard that he appreciated George's talent as a singer and performer since the first time he heard his music back in 1962.
"It was 'She Thinks I Still Care,' and I said, 'What is that?' He had the most unusual voice you would ever want to hear," Sam tells Billboard . "He was in a class of his own. He was a controversial and the most complex man, but when he hit the stage -- he left it all there."
Nu-Blu's All the Way will be released on September 16.
