The Rolling Stones ' 14 On Fire tour got under way Friday with the band's first-ever concert in the United Arab Emirates city of Abu Dhabi. The sold-out show featured a 19-song set made up of many of the same classic tunes The Stones featured on last year's 50 and Counting trek. One new addition was "Slipping Away," a song that appeared on the group's 1989 album Steel Wheels and that Keith Richards sings.
The band also played "Gimme Shelter," which fans in the United Arab Emirates voted as their favorite song, as well as a rendition of "You Can't Always Get What You Want" with accompaniment from a local outfit called the Al Khubairat Singers .
Next up for The Stones is a show this Wednesday at Japan's Tokyo Dome, the first of three sold-out events at the venue.
In other news, the band has organized a special treat for fans in Singapore who haven't able to score tickets to the legendary rockers' March 15 concert at the Marina Bay Sands resort. The show will be simulcast for free on a giant LED screen offering state-of-the-art video and audio in conjunction with a public music festival called Marina Bay Sands Rocks Singapore. The broadcast will take place at the Marina Bay Sands Event Plaza and will begin at 8 p.m. local time.
