Minnesota Storm

Hastings, MN (KELO AM) - If you have plans to head to the Twin Cities, or anywhere in eastern Minnesota, the Minnesota State Patrol has two words of advice: Stay home!

After getting rain Thursday afternoon and evening, heavy wet snow fell across Eastern Minnesota, creating dangerous travel conditions.  In the Twin Cities area,  main travel corridors became skating rinks as drivers compacted the snow into sheets of ice.  Travel was slow yesterday with semis unable to make small inclines or navigate off ramps. The MDOT travel website (511mn.org) shows difficult travel conditions continue today.

Authorities are asking that you stay home this weekend to give MNDOT a chance to clear off the ice before Arctic air invades the area next week, making chemicals less efficient.  Eastern Minnesota is expecting lows below zero, with highs in the single digits above zero.

Speaking from my experience Friday, wait to go to the Cities or eastern Minnesota until roads are clear.
