Geomagnetic storm is too weak

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - No Northern Lights for the Dakotas or Minnesota.

Sioux Falls Meteorologist-in-Charge Sally Johnson says a solar flare that erupted Tuesday is sending a geomagnetic storm to earth but its impact is minimal.  Johnson says there's only been minor effects because the bulk of the C-M-E missed the earth and what did make it here is very weak.

She says storm wasn't strong enough and the Aurora Borealis stayed at the poles.

C-M-E stands for Coronal Mass Ejection, the plasma that the sun tosses out, also called a solar flare.
