Mitchell, SD (KELO-AM) South Dakota's iconic Corn Palace in Mitchell is now domeless.
Mitchell's interim Public Works Director Terry Johnson says the familiar old domes have been removed from the top of the building to make way for new and improved domes. He says the new domes will have holes so LED lighting inside will show through at night with a variety of color choices.
A company in Minnesota is making the new domes and turrets so Johnson says it will likely be the first part of next year before the Corn Palace will have domes again. He says the old turrets and one of the domes will be saved for future uses.
The dome switching is the visual highlight of the $7 million restoration projecd at the Corn Palace.
