South Dakota looking at conflcting Obamacare rulings

Sioux Falls, SD (KELO-AM) The 11,000 South Dakotans with subsidized health insurance under Obamacare have nothing to worry about - for now - says Deb Muller with Avera Health Plans.

There are conflicting court rulings on whether subsidies are legal in states, such as South Dakota, that chose not to have state insurance exchanges. Most of the states that use the federal exchange are Republican-led states with little love for the Affordable Care Act.

Muller says both court rulings make it clear that subsidized South Dakota policies will remain in effect for all of 2014.

The big 'what if', Muller says is if such subsidies are eventually declared illegal.  She says then South Dakota might have to decide whether to change it's legislative mind and allow a state exchange. Otherwise, those 11,000 South Dakotans might no longer have subsidized health insurance.
