Alice Cooper has been known to spend quality time with a boa constrictor and various sinister characters during his over-the-top stage shows, but in the early 1970s he also used to hang around with a bunch of vampires. These creatures of the night weren't of the blood-sucking variety; rather, they were a drinking club made up of Cooper and some of his famous musical friends that collectively was known as The Hollywoood Vampires, who would meet in the loft at the Rainbow Bar on Los Angeles' Sunset Boulevard.
Alice now is asking fans to help him with a new project he's putting together that focuses on The Hollywood Vampires. In a message posted on his official website and Twitter account , Cooper writes, "After watching my copy of Super Duper Alice Cooper , I decided that I'd like to tell the story of The Hollywood Vampires…Notable members were myself, Ringo Starr , Harry Nilsson , Micky Dolenz & Keith Moon , with regular drop in's from just about everyone you could imagine. We also had a baseball team that included many other rock stars of the time."
Alice adds, "I want to preserve our legacy, and I need your blood! I'm looking for photos, stories, artifacts and witnesses from this place in rock history. If you saw a Vampire, tweet your story along with #HollywoodVampires!"
The initiative appears to be tied in with the recently announced covers album Cooper has recorded paying homage to the music made by the members of The Hollywood Vampires, many of whom are no longer with us. During a press conference for the recent Sweden Rock Festival, Alice revealed that the album wouldn't be released "until the fall or the beginning of next year."
In other news, Cooper recently revealed that his touring band's lineup recently underwent a change , with Australian guitar whiz Orianthi exiting the group and being replaced by Nita Strauss . Strauss previously has played with such bands as The Iron Maidens , Femme Fatale and LA Kiss .
Cooper will play three headlining shows in Michigan in late June before hitting the road as Motley Crue 's special guest on the glam-metal band's massive farewell tour. The trek kicks off July 2 in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
