Night of the Proms, a long-running series of European concerts featuring various pop artists backed by classical musicians, will make its U.S. debut in June. The four-show tour will include performances by Michael McDonald , Kenny Loggins , The Pointer Sisters and Nile Rodgers & Chic , among others, and will take place June 19 in Dallas; June 20 in Little Rock, Arkansas; June 21 in Kansas City, Missouri; and June 22 in Omaha, Nebraska.
Performing with the veteran stars will be Night of the Proms' regular orchestra, Il Novecento , as well as Belgium's Fine Fleur orchestra, a 24-member choir and an eight-piece pop-rock band led by U.K. singer/multi-instrumentalist John Miles . Comedic opera singer Natalie Choquette also will appear at the shows. The concerts will include a combination of pop hits by the headlining acts and classical pieces.
Night of the Proms originated in Belgium in 1985 and has visited a variety of European countries over the years. Among the many stars who have participated in the overseas editions of the trek are Joe Cocker , Christopher Cross , Sting , Procol Harum 's Gary Brooker , The Zombies ' Colin Blunstone , Toto , Bryan Ferry , Roger Hodgson from Supertramp , The Pretenders ' Chrissie Hynde , James Brown , Meat Loaf , Robin Gibb , Donna Summer , Tears for Fears , Gloria Estefan and Foreigner .
