Sleepy Eye / Independence, MN (KELO AM) – Five people have died in two accidents on Minnesota roads so far this weekend
Four people, ages 17 to 20, were killed in a car – pick-up crash near Sleepy Eye, Minnesota about 8:30 p.m. Friday night.
According to the Minnesota State Patrol, icy conditions contributed to the accident around 8:30 p.m. on U.S. Highway 14, when the car lost control on a curve and was broadsided by the pick-up. Four people were killed in the car. The driver had serious injuries. The driver of the light truck and his two children received non-life threatening injuries.
The second accident happened early Saturday morning at a railroad crossing at the intersection of Highway 12 and County Road 92 in Independence, MN.
A 25-year-old female died when she made a right hand turn onto County Road 92 and was hit by a train.
Lights and gates were in operation at the crossing at the time of the accident.
