Sioux Falls, SD (KELO AM) - General Motors has added to it’s recall woes and has recalled 172, 000 Chevy Cruze compact cars. The recall affects 2013 and 2014 model with the 1.4 liter turbocharged engine.
The recall is for the replacement of the right front axle shaft. The shaft can fracture and separate while being driven, causing the vehicle to lose power and coast to a stop.
The recall also allows dealers to resume sales and deliveries of the vehicle to customers. Sales of the Cruze had been halted earlier without an explanation.
No crashes, injuries or fatalities have been associated with this recall.
GM has also expanded the recall of faulty ignition switches. The recall now includes all model years of the Chevrolet Cobalt, Chevrolet HHR, Saturn Ion, Saturn Sky, Pontiac G5 and Pontiac Solstice made from 2003-2011.
When jostled or bumped, the switch can go to accessory mode, causing the engine to shut down and cutting power to the power steering, power brakes and airbags. Twelve deaths have been attributed to the faulty switches.
