celebrated his 54th birthday in Los Angeles this past Saturday, and it was apparently a star-studded event.
The party took place at the home of U2 manager Guy Oseary , and the list of celebrities who showed up to help the U2 frontman mark the occasion included Pharrell Williams , Jared Leto and magician David Blaine , Us Weekly reports.
Jazz pianist Herbie Hancock also showed up to deliver a surprise performance, and Pharrell sang his mega-hit, “Happy.”
A source tells Us Weekly that Pharrell told Bono, “You've changed the world with everything you do. You give people hope, especially with your song ‘Sunday, Bloody Sunday.’” Bono replied, “Well, if we just keep singing ‘Happy,’ we won't need songs like ‘Sunday, Bloody Sunday.’”
David Blaine provided his brand of entertainment by attempting to hold his breath underwater for 10 minutes and five seconds, in honor of the tenth day of the fifth month: Bono's birthday is May 10. The source says Blaine failed in his attempt, but he did manage to eat a banana and smoke "an electric cigar underwater."
An insider says Charlize Theron and Sean Penn didn’t attend, but the couple surprised Bono by sending a performer who "transforms his body with shaving cream into characters."
The celebration also marked the 25th birthday of Bono's daughter, Jordan , who shares the same birthday as her dad.
