SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - South Dakota received 41.5% of its total state general revenues from the federal government in fiscal year 2012.

Liz Malm with Tax Foundation says on average, state governments received almost 33 percent of their revenues in federal aid.

Mississippi took the most federal money, with 45.8% of its total state general revenue from federal transfer and Alaska took the least at 20%.  North Dakota was second lowest at 21%.

According to the Census Bureau, South Dakota had the sixth lowest per capita state tax burden in 2012 at just over $1,800.
