SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — Street construction update:
Lane Closure – West 14 Street
Beginning on Monday, April 12, 2021, at 9 a.m., the outside westbound lane on West 14th Street will be closed east of Minnesota Avenue. The shoulder of the northbound lanes on Minnesota Avenue, north of West 14th Street will also be closed. Landscaping concrete work will be done in the area.
This work is expected to be completed on Monday afternoon.
Drivers are urged to use caution and reduce their speed while traveling near the construction area and may want to consider alternate routes.
Street Closure – Russell Street between Minnesota Avenue and Main Avenue
Beginning on Monday, April 12, 2021, construction will start on the intersection of Russell Street and Minnesota Avenue. Construction crews will be performing joint repairs, installing sidewalk, and upgrading the traffic signals.
The east leg of the intersection will be closed from Minnesota Avenue to Main Avenue. Traffic will be detoured on Minnesota Avenue, Benson Road, and Fourth Avenue.
The other three legs of the intersection will have lane closures but will remain open with traffic reduced to one lane in each direction.
During construction, truck traffic will be restricted from making turns at the intersection. Trucks needing to make turns will be detoured on Minnesota Avenue, Tenth and 11th Streets, 12th Street, West Avenue, and Russell Street.
Russell Street east of Minnesota Avenue is anticipated to be open to traffic by the end of April. Completion of the overall project is scheduled to be completed by mid-July 2021.

Street Closure – 69th Street and Sycamore Avenue
Beginning on Monday, April 12, 2021, Sycamore Avenue will be closed from 65th Street to just south of 69th Street, and 69th Street will be closed from Bahnson Avenue to just east of Sycamore Avenue to allow crews to reconstruct the intersection of 69th Street and Sycamore Avenue. Motorists should utilize Southeastern Avenue, Veterans Parkway, and 57th Street as alternate routes.
Work will include private utility relocation, installation of underground utilities, street lighting, and asphalt pavement. 69th Street and Sycamore Avenue are expected to reopen to traffic in late Fall 2021.

Lane Closure – South Kiwanis Avenue
Beginning on Tuesday, April 13, 2021, the two southbound lanes and center turn lane of South Kiwanis Avenue will be closed between West 12th Street and West 26th Street for concrete pavement repairs.
Work will include concrete joint repair, curb and gutter repair, and sidewalk ramp replacement. The lane closure will move to the two northbound lanes and center turn lane once work is completed in the southbound lanes.
South Kiwanis Avenue will remain open to two-way traffic throughout the duration of the work. Access to homes, businesses, parks and side streets will be maintained throughout to the fullest extent possible. In the event a repair blocks access to a facility, a short term, temporary detour may be necessary.
Work in this phase is anticipated to be complete by the end of April 2021. The overall completion of work on Kiwanis Avenue is scheduled to be completed by the end of July.
