Updates and anticipated work for May 10-14, 2021:
Project Location: SD Highway 46 Beresford
Description of Work: Asphalt concrete surfacing, surface preparation, pavement marking and guardrail.
Work in Progress: Milling of the existing surface along with surface preparation.
Anticipated Work: Loiseau Construction, Inc. will continue milling of the existing highway surface, blending/stockpile millings, and preparing base surface for pavement.
Traffic Affects: Highway 46 is reduced to 1 lane with delays expected due to traffic being stopped by flaggers.

Project Location: Interstate Crossroads Interstate 29 & Interstate 90
Description of Work: In March 2021, crossroad improvement work began on roads crossing over or under I-29 and I-90. The project extends from mile marker 5 to 119 on I-29 and from mile marker 380 to 396 on I-90. The project consists of upgrades to guardrail on selected roads crossing over and under the interstate highway system, as well as grading, asphalt paving, and pipe culvert work required to complete the guardrail improvements.
Work in Progress: Work is currently occurring at sites along I-29 between mile marker 46 and mile marker 119. Work at the sites progresses quickly from grading to asphalt placement to guardrail placement.
Traffic Alerts: Traffic control at the sites generally consists of a closure of one-half of the roadway, with stop signs at each end of the closure for traffic to take turns moving through the project. A full roadway closure is in place on the mile marker 87 crossroad (257th Street). The closure is expected to remain in place until approximately May 10, 2021.

The overall completion date for this $3 million project is November 2021.

Project Location: Interstates 29 & 90, US Highway 81, S.D. Highways 11, 13 & 32
Description of Work: Culvert replacement and repair at 13 various sites.
Work in Progress: Site 3 (Hwy 81) and Site 12 (Hwy 13) installation of new 48” pipe.
Anticipated Work: BX C&C will be installing 48” RCP as it transitions from the 48” steel pipe installed by Mike Colman Construction at site 3. Subsurface will remove and re-install tie bars with epoxy at site 4 (Hwy 81).
Traffic Affects: Shoulders are closed at the pipe locations being repaired along Highway 81 (site 3) and Highway 13 (site 12).

Project Location: S.D. Highway 18 through the city of Canton (478th Ave. to the South Dakota state line).
Description of Work: Pavement Repair, Curb and Gutter Repair, and ADA Curb Ramp Upgrades
Work in Progress: D&G Concrete Construction of Sioux Falls, the prime contractor for this project, has completed concrete repair from the South Dakota state line to Lawler Street. The contractor is currently working on concrete pavement repair from Industrial Road to Bridge Street. ADA ramp work continues at Bridge Street, Wicker Street, Howard Street, Blair Street and Milwaukee Street.
Traffic Alerts:
Lane closures are in place on Highway 18 from Industrial Road to Bridge Street with the westbound inside and outside lanes closed. Westbound traffic is diverted to the center turn lane.
A lane closure is also in place on Highway 18 from Lawler Street to Grant Street. The eastbound driving lane is closed. Eastbound traffic is diverted to the center turn lane.
The project has a completion date of Nov. 5, 2021.

Project Location: S.D. 19 from S.D. 42 to Parker and S.D. 44 from Parker to S.D. 19 JCT
Description of Work: Cold milling, asphalt concrete resurfacing, left turn lanes, intersection improvements, culvert work, end block modification, bridge end backfill, approach slabs, pavement marking and guardrail.
Work in Progress: BX Civil & Construction of Dell Rapids, a subcontractor, is currently building new approach and sleeper slabs for both bridges over the East and West Vermillion River. The northbound lanes at both bridges are currently closed for the first phase of construction.
Next week BX Civil & Construction plans to pour new approach slabs on the northbound lane of the bridge over the West Fork Vermillion River. The same week, berm repair is scheduled to start for the bridge over the East Fork Vermillion River. Crews will place dirt underneath both ends of the bridge where washouts occurred in the past.
Traffic Alerts: One lane is currently closed for both bridges over the East and West Vermillion River. These closures will remain in place until the bridge work for phase one is complete. During the project, access will be maintained for S.D. 19 residents and businesses.

Project Location: I-29 from Exit 62 to Exit 71
Description of Work: The project consists of concrete pavement repair, spall repair, joint resealing, sealing random cracks, membrane sealant expansion joints, and durable pavement marking
Work in Progress: BX Civil & Construction, Inc. began concrete pavement repair work on the project on May 3, 2021. They are working in the northbound driving lane at the Canton Exit. Dakota Traffic Services set up a lane closure on Monday morning, May 3, to close the driving lane for approximately 1 mile. The contractor started at the south end of the project on I-29 and are working to the north. They are hoping to remove the lane closure for the weekend on Saturday morning May 8. They intend to move the northbound driving lane closure up to Mile Marker 63 for the week of May 10.
Traffic Affects: Interstate 29 traffic has been reduced to one lane northbound through the work zone on the project. Travelers will notice construction vehicles and equipment on the roadway and will be required to reduce speed through the work zone and be alert for vehicles slowing down in the work zone. The speed limit through the work zone will be 45 MPH when workers are present and will be 65 MPH when they are not working. They have started at the south end of the project near Canton Exit and are working their way north in the driving lane performing concrete pavement repair. The length of the lane closures will vary depending on areas to be repaired and the work being performed.

Work in Progress: Structure painting and chain link fence installation.
Anticipated Work: Rainbow Inc. will be painting the Exit 402 bridge over I-90, and the Veteran’s Parkway bridges over the Big Sioux River. American Fence will be finishing the installation of chain link fence on the Veteran’s Parkway bridge over the Big Sioux River.
Traffic Alerts: I-90 will be reduced to 1 lane in both directions while the structure painting is being completed.

Description of Work: Grading, Curb & Gutter, Strom Sewer, Lighting, Structures, PCC Surfacing, Sidewalk, Pavement Markings, Signals & Interchange Reconstruction.
Work in Progress: D&G poured sidewalk and colored concrete along the west side of Southeastern Avenue north of 26th Street.
Anticipated Work: Lunda will begin installing membrane sealant expansion joints on the structure going over the Big Sioux River and the structure going over I229. Rainbow, Inc. will begin painting and installing surface finishes on the Big Sioux River Bridge, Type C walls and moment slabs. Dakota Traffic Services will begin installing permanent pavement markings.
Traffic Affects: 26th Street, Southeastern Avenue and I-229 may have single lane closures periodically while work is being performed during daylight hours. Due to lane restrictions, delays are expected, and alternative routes are advised.
