MITCHELL, SD (KELO.com) — A new economic report is giving Dakota Wesleyan University students a valuable life experience. The students helped develop a new economic report that will be valuable to economic developers. There’s no shortage of information to be researched, but Professor Dr. Tracy Dice says one big challenge was finding reliable information.
The report is the brainchild of Mitchell Area Development Corporation CEO Mike Lauritsen. Dakota Wesleyan University students are getting some real-life experience in the classroom as a result. They’ve helped develop a new economic report that economic developers across the state can use in the efforts to generate new business and jobs. Lauritsen says the report provides a clear picture on the impact of his work.
Lauritsen and Professor Tracy Dice revived the report, which used to be produced at Northern State University. It provides a taste of real-world experience for economics students which they believe will be valuable in their careers. The group just finished compiling its first economic report on South Dakota, combining data from the Secretary of State’s office on new business filings with information from state and federal reports. Accounting major Morgan Edelman of Menno appreciates the opportunity.
Business and marketing major Lily Ranschau of Garretson was the lead graphic designer for the project.
Dakota Wesleyan will produce the economic report twice each year.
