SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO.com) — Sioux Falls is jumping on board a proposed new project to deliver Missouri River water to a large area of eastern South Dakota and surrounding states. The City Council unanimously passed a resolution of support for the Dakota Mainstem Regional Water System. Ryan Johnson, a water department engineer and President of Dakota Mainstem, told councilors it’s important to plan far into the future.
The city is also a member of the Lewis & Clark Regional Water system, which began work on delivering water to the region over 30 years ago. Over 50 local communities, tribes and water districts have signed on to the Dakota Mainstem project.
