VIENNA (Reuters) – Austrian far-right Freedom Party (FPO) leader Herbert Kickl confirmed on Tuesday he plans to invite the conservative People’s Party (OVP) to hold coalition talks after he was tasked with forming a coalition government.
Kickl said in a statement he would extend the invitation once his party’s leadership signs off on the move at a meeting on Tuesday evening. The OVP is his only potential coalition partner but he called on it to be “honest” in talks or face a snap election, with support for the FPO rising.
